Maureen’s painting focus is on rural African figure study. She sees her paintings as windows into this world. Her main pleasure is in expressing the emotions of her subjects. For her, the natural responsiveness and sense of community of the African people is inspiring. Her paintings reflect this. Maureen mainly uses her own photographic reference but is happy to paint from reference offered to her by others.
